Do you remember the One Pound Fish Man? (if not you are missing out)

He now has a single and it’s competing for Christmas no. 1. This makes me so happy.

So I saw Natalia Tena play a few songs with her band today. I went to a joint 275th birthday celebration with all my old Suzuki teachers. There was Bach Double and cake and it was pretty great. The violinist in the band is the son of one of the teachers…I only clocked after googling the band that NATALIA TENA IS TONKS. WHAT. I KNEW I KNEW HER FROM SOMEWHERE. I am annoyed at myself for not getting the opportunity to be an annoying fangirl. The music was excellent btw.

Pachelbel Rant, one of my old favourites.

21 Balançoires (21 Swings) is an installation on a Montreal street which converted a narrow strip of land into an enourmous musical instruement.  Pre-recorded sounds from a xylophone, piano, and other instruments were programmed into color-coded swings that when in use play various notes, however when swung in unison with careful cooperation, more complex melodies and harmonies arise. An additional “secret mode” was programmed to only play when all 21 swings were in use.

There is a beautiful video @vimeo, if you would like to discover what it sounds like.

And now, I want to go to Montreal just so I can go these swings.

Making a jogging playlist ready for my first 30 minute run!

jog.fm is awesome. Just type in your pace and it gives you songs to match. I searched my favourite artists and picked songs ideal for 5:30-8:00 minute kilometres (I’m not too picky because I want a big range of music and also I tend to ignore whatever’s playing and just run at my own pace anyway!)

Ivan’s House busk outside Liverpool St. Station at a Street Piano in London!

They got a really awesome crowd, right at the end they got shut down because they were still on station property and some people who’d being watching stepped in to defend them!

I love these guys, they’re awesome friends of mine and they make pretty decent sounds too.

Amanda Palmer’s incredible new music video for Want It Back.

Why can’t all music videos be this good?

Playing the violin for 3 hours after a 2 year break is not the wisest idea.

OW MY FINGERTIPS.

Just found out about Tom Gabel coming out as trans

And how she’s now going to go by Laura Jane Grace and stay married to her wife Heather. This makes me happy.

I was actually thinking a few weeks ago about how there aren’t really that many LGBT musicians in the punk scene (admittedly, there is the queercore scene, but that is undeniably tiny). There are a bunch of bands that are “pro-gay”, but nothing really goes much further than that (which is why Rise Against’s song Make It Stop was basically going into uncharted territory).

Depending on which sun-genre of punk you’re going into, you’ll find very different situations in terms of both the artists and the audience - ranging from open homophobia in some punk scenes to some rather androgynous band members in others. But overall, the punk scene isn’t exactly the gayest place you could be in. I mean, there’s the stereotype of girls into punk being “butch” or gay, but people tend to assume that most males in the punk scene are just manly as fuck and could never be gay and of course they could never be feminine in any way and definitely aren’t transgender.

And that’s why I’m glad that Laura finally came out after years of dysphoria and confusion. Unlike me, most people who listen to punk don’t find themselves pondering the concepts of LGBT people and punk people in the same context. And now, if they’re in any way interested in the band Against Me!, then they’ll have to.
