Trigger warning for transphobia and augh
A couple of people from the show My Transexual Summer came to talk to us at Uni on Thursday. They were awesome and it was a great talk, but some of the audience members made me want to slam my head against the desk.
In particular a woman who had run for SU president last year. She has a bad history for saying really ignorant things. She claimed LGBT people don’t need union representation, and after this caused outcry she tried to backpeddle by saying “oh I don’t mind gay people if they don’t try to rape anyone”
I KID YOU NOT
She started out by stating “well I didn’t watch your show but I think that you look really great. You look just like a real woman and you look just like a real man”
Cue entire (mostly LGBT) audience cringing in their seats.
Later she commented during a discussion about surgeries, saying “if you have surgery, you are giving up your fertility, so why should you have the right to adopt?”
The room exploded, the best response was a “THE FUCK!” coming from the person sitting behind me. Somebody made an intelligent statement which was pretty much “lolno you’re wrong” and everyone applauded that.
It just blows my mind that people still think like this.
I wonder why she was there, we think she was trying to educate herself. If so I’m kinda glad that I happened in an environment where there was enough of us to give her the kind of feedback she should get when she airs opinions like that.

I need a break, this term has taken it out of me. I am so tired.
Went out last night. Several things were achieved. I spent less than £3 on alcohol. Cheesy music dancing aplenty (a club is not a decent club unless it plays s club 7 followed by vengaboys. At least in my humble opinion.) Also had to fend off creepers because what the FUCK do you think you are doing in a gay bar. Seriously.
I ended the night on a classy by walking home in bare feet. I’m surprised I survived that.

You will very rarely see me curse, tumblypoos, but…but…I mean, what the fuck? How is this even possible? This reads like an Onion article.
To be clear, it is now ILLEGAL to teach de la Pena’s novel (which I’ve read and which is excellent) in schools, not because the book contains violence or drug use or massively unerotic blow jobs, but because it contains Mexican American characters. (The protagonist of the novel is only half Mexican, but apparently that is too Mexican for Arizona.)
That’s it. That’s the whole reason it can’t be taught in schools.

We googled it and BBC3 was all “EPISODE 3 NOW PLAYING” and we thought we’d missed the first two episodes. Cue SO MUCH LESBIAN FLAILING AROUND.
